Band Bios

Downhome DaveDownhome Dave (Harmonica and vocals). Downhome Dave has always loved all types of music. After hearing Magic Dick of the J. Geils band play "Whammer Jammer" live, Downhome tried for about a month to play the harmonica. He ended up throwing it in a drawer as it just wasn't happening. Some years later, in a small little local restaurant, Dave was treated to the playing of harmonica virtuoso Sherman Doucette. Dave met Sherman that night and formed a friendship. It was Sherman who helped hone Down Home Dave's harmonica skills. While playing at a jam hosted by Sherman, 'Skip' Maguire suggested he try to sing a song. The rest is history. Downhome Dave regularly performed as a co-host of the Sunday night jam, with Dogskin Suit's Poppa Dawg. Now Downhome Dave leads the Dynamite as the hosts of the jam. After just 5 years of intense practice and a god given gift Downhome has joined the ranks of some of the finest overblow harmonica players going. A shining example that “dreams don’t die; they just intensify”. Influenced by original icons such as Little Walter, Big Walter, Paul Butterfield, James Cotton, and William Clarke; Downhome Dave has also allowed the influence of the more modern masters of the 10 hole harp (Howard Levy, Carlos Del Junco) into his playing. His repertoire spans all forms of blues, to rock’n roll, and Jazz.

Vocally he has been described as bedroom smooth with the available grain soaked growl necessary to sell the blues. A perfect sound for discerning audiences of blues based music today.

Jim ButlerJimmy Butler (lead, rhythm guitar, vocals) He took both piano and guitar lessons when he was 8 years old. He will never forget his first Assembly Day concert in his elementary school’s auditorium. He and his fellow band mates, all in grade six, performed Kansas City, Love Like A Man and a very hip version of Mary Had A Little Lamb (folks this was way before Stevie Ray Vaughan’s version). He says, “The kids got out of the chairs and clapped and cheered like we were the Beatles.” In his teens and early twenties he attended music programs at Capilano College and Vancouver Community College. He performed and recorded with numerous rock, blues and jazz ensembles including:

· The Original Sinners – a four piece jazz funk fusion band.
· Shaughnessy - a pop rock band. Jimmy was hired 2 weeks before playing at the BC Super Summer Festival 79 in Prince George attended by 12,000 people. Jimmy subsequently played guitar on numerous studio recordings for bandleader songwriter John Dexter (he wrote Heaven In Your Eyes, recorded by Loverboy for Paramount film Top Gun in 1986. Dextor currently produces Bif Naked etc…)
· The Flying Undercups (1984-87) an outrageous six piece avant-garde jazz music ensemble which performed and recorded at the infamous Fireside Theatre;
· In 1990 Jimmy joined a number of international music organizations and began composing and studying music with computers and synthisers.
· Sherman Doucette's Tankful of Blues - a Chicago blues harp player. Jimmy played lead guitar with Doucette for over three years.
·Jimmy has also played with a number of other blues bands including Powell Street Slim, Ricky & The Blue Cats, Blues Tribe, and Dogskin Suit.

Jimmy plays a blue Jim Triggs Cort semi hollow body single cutaway guitar, with rosewood neck, light gauge strings through a “hopped up” Fender "Blues Junior" amp. A few of his favourite guitar players are BB King, T-Bone Walker, Albert Collins, Albert King, Freddie King, Robben Ford, Elmore James, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, John McLaughlin, Carlos Santana, Johnny Winter, and Jimi Hendrix.
